I opened a Barbi stem which he drop on the floor and threw away that you can see how it looks inside.  In the little attached photo on the left you see a thick factory bit besides the opened Barbi stem. |

First I drill centered into the slot and then move the borer carefully from left to right until I have a v-formed intake.  With the dremel I do nothing different. |

Then you proceed with a file...  ...or if you have and know to handle it - a wheel stand or band grinder |

Everything else will be done then with emery cloth, steel wool, and the polishing machine.  The result you see in the first picture above. The bit is shortened, flattened and the slot is opened and takes a cleaner with ease. You can also alter the width. You see: Every pipe can have a comfortable bit. But before you start to damage your high grades try on an old stem. With a little experience it takes less than ten minutes. On demand I offer all my customers this as a service on new items they buy from me from now on.  Once you made your bit a comfortable and flat one better smoke your pipe with a softy on your flat and comfortable bit to protect it against tooth marks and slobber !  HAPPY PUFFING !
